A high quality link to your site is one that includes your websites keywords in its anchor text. The reason a link with the keyword in the anchor text is given more weight than links without, is because the anchor text coming from another site shows the content is relevant to your site.

So, it’s ideal to have the backlink from a site that has relevance to your site and also more “link juice” than yours. Link juice means having a higher page rank which in turn gives you the so called “juice”. Additionally, having the link in anchor text which directs to a relevant page on your site plays such an important role when you get backlinks.

There is another factor you should recognize about links is that there are two types. One is Dofollow and the other Nofollow. With Dofollow links web crawlers or spiders will follow the links of the site. So with Nofollow the web crawlers/spiders will not follow the links back to your site.

Having both Dofollow and Nofollow links is considered natural for SEO purposes. However with Dofollow links the search engine spiders will search your link from other pages and follow them back to your site and this is what we want. This is an important aspect of backlinking for SEO purposes.

Simply stated you want the majority of your backlinking plan to include DoFollow links from quality high page ranking sites. You want to steer clear of low quality “spammy type sites” which is considered a bad neighborhood for your site to be associated with. Associating with these types of sites will hurt your page rankings.

The bottom line is you need backlinks from high quality page rank sites, of the DoFollow variety. You also need a plan of action for your backlink strategy one that will keep you on track and makes it easy for you to follow. One that includes all the quality ingredients for high quality backlinking to get you ranking highly in the search engines.

The first thing to know is that it is how your affiliates and JV’s perform for you that is important, not how many of them you have.

I encourage you to set time aside each week to seek out and contact new potential partners on a regular basis and.make it a habit.

The ‘Potential’ field is how you would rank what the opportunity was with this site and helps you make an initial assessment on whether to contact them via email, letter or telephone call.

Getting In Touch – Keep it simple when emailing potential partners and just introduce yourself, explain how you found their site, what you liked about it and why you was contacting them.

For really ‘hot’ prospects I suggest you use a letter followed by a phone call or go straight to calling them up. Why? Because the ‘bigger’ players in your market will be inundated with emails and contacting them by post and/or phone will make you stand out from the crowd.

What are the ‘hot buttons’ you can use to get to your prospective JV or affiliate? You have to know what they are so you can make your pitch personal and identify how best to help them. You do this by asking questions, listening to their answers and be GENUINELY interested in what they say. It’s their agenda, not yours, that is important here so you must discover what you can do for them.

What if they say no? Then be honest and just ask them “what would make them say yes to working with you?” Listen closely to their answer and look to see how you might find a way to work that out. If you can’t find a way, thank them for their time and move onto the next person on your list.

However, just because they said no this time doesn’t mean they won’t in the future, so keep the communication open and revisit them occasionally to see if you can help with anything or if they are now open to discussing potential opportunities together.

The phrase, “The Long Tail” was first mentioned by Chris Anderson in 2004. Chris was the executive editor of Wired magazine. At that time, he was writing about an important aspect of internet niche marketing, one that Amazon.com used to become the most successful online bookseller.

If you plot a line on the graph to show book sales, from the number one bestseller to titles that have sold just a single volume, what you will have is a very long descending line. It is the long descending line that is referred to as the “long tale”. This kind of line can be plotted for any market, not just books.

Although Amazon dominates a huge number of relatively narrow online niche market sectors all along the long tail of book sales, that does not mean that Amazon has a monopoly or that there is no opportunity for anybody else to build a successful business of their own using long tail keywords that are targeted at just one or two niche markets. Simply by learning to dominate one or two well-chosen niches, you will be able to establish yourself in a very comfortable position for doing business on the Internet.
