Because it can be quite complex and expensive I think they tend to be techie guys, probably that work in the industry that know what they are doing. Personally I use http://www.terapad.com which is a hosted service, but its 100% free and has more features than wordpress. You can ad adsense in as well no problem, I have seen people do it with their Terapad sites ( see http://www.terapad.com/net for examples ).
