If you are using latest Joomla 1.5, login to the backend as administrator.
And go to Site-&gt;Global Configuration.
It is again divided into three tabs Site, System and Server.
You need to be in Site and you will find &quot;SEO Settings&quot; on the right hand side. 
Just choose &quot;No&quot; for Search Engine Friendly URLs there.
If you are using the earlier Joomla version :
Login as admin to the back end . And go to
Site -&gt; Global Configuration.
Here you see a separate tab called SEO where you can find settings.
